On the beat editing task.
What was the task?
The task was to re-edit footage to a soundtrack named Bonfire by Knife Party. We also had to ensure that we played around with the footage, for example speeding up or reversing clips and appropriately cutting the soundtrack. I downloaded the track into iTunes, then Final Cut Pro by converting the web page of the song from YouTube via an MP3 converter which changes music videos into soundtracks.
What have I learnt?
I have learnt how to speed up and reverse clips which I have never done before when editing. I also learnt how to edit the clips so they matched the pace of the soundtrack, also known as on the beat editing.
What techniques did I trial?
I trialed reversing the clips to see how they would fit in with the song. I found in some places, such as the explosion, it was effective as the song sounded as if it was rewinding, exaggerating the clip which was also in reverse. However, I tried other techniques like using flash transitions in between clips but found this was not useful as the transitons did not suit the pace of the song and looked out of place and so I took them out. The most effective technique I used was repeating clips to build tension, matching the build up of the song. This helped increase the pace of the clips in line with the beat of the song.
How will this task help me in A2 tasks?
This will help me because I will have a better understanding of how to edit clips on beat with a song.
