In depth ideas

We chose to cast a girl called Honey who is a student at Mossbourne Community Academy. Because she is under 16 we had to ask her parents for consent to film with Honey. We proposed the letter below and emailed it to her mother. Her mother's response is below too.

Response/consent from Honey's mother
Letter we sent to parents asking permission to film with Honey

I messaged James Woodward on Soundcloud to inform him that we would be using his song Covet - he confirmed there was no problem with doing this

Cast

We chose Honey to play the character of the young girl. We thought that she would be perfect for the role as she does a lot of drama and acting. Also, she has blonde hair and is a realistic representation of a 'younger' Tommy.

Costume

We chose to film the girls in a plain white t-shirt. This is because it shows how she is overlooked in her life - nobody really notices her or her feelings

When we shot the bed scenes, she wore different costume every shot, strengthening the relationship between the lyrics and music. As we hear 'the past few nights you've been away' we see the girl in her bed over the past few nights
Tommy was also perfect for the role because she does drama and is confident to sing in front of me. Also she could easily pass for an older version of Honey.

Hollow Ponds

  • Conforms to theme of nature

  • Hectic atmosphere but with a sense of simplicity

  • Good to symbolise the girl being lost in the wilderness

  • It is a distortion of reality/an escape for her

  • Keeps the storyline realistic/believeable

  • Helps audience relate to storyline - keeps a personal relationship with characters and the viewer

  • Helps explain her situation without using sound - we can see the tense atmosphere in the family

  • Conforms to theme of nature

  • Isolated/lonely feel to the location

  • Empty/deserted location can emphasise the girls loneliness

  • Shows the girl needs time alone to process the situation - it is effected her badly

Shot ideas with lyrics

This is a list of shots we need to film on the weekend which helps keep us organised and spend time efficiently during production. It also gives us a list of props we need to bring on the filming day.

Relationship between lyrics and visuals

I'm not jealous in any way,

but don't expect me to be okay.

My whole life has gone astray,

The past few nights you've been away.

Wish I was a sky above you all day,

No matter where you went,

be there always.

I'm selfish I'm greedy,

you need time away.

The last thing I want is to get in your way.

You are my covet,

Goddam I love it,

You are my covet,

I am ignited

Here, we'll have multiple shots, each shot representing a different night, wearing different costume and different body position of the child, showing the parents are (physically)separating.

We will have a time lapse of the sky, to create a link between the lyrics and visuals. The time lapse will also show that time has passed but the situation has stayed the same. This will also fit with the theme of nature.

During these lyrics, the little girl will be in shot, in between her arguing parents. hugging her teddy, emphasisng that she does not want them to separate.

PERFORMANCE ASPECT - OLDER GIRL LIP SYNCING

PERFORMANCE ASPECT - OLDER GIRL LIP SYNCING

Near the end of this line the opacity of the girl will decrease and reveal burning flames so that we end on that shot and the lyrics 'I am ignited' strengthening the relationship between lyrics and visuals.

For these lyrics we will be located at Hollow Ponds and the girl will be placing a paper boat on the lake to symbolise her life being taken away from her - because she is the one pushing the boat away it suggests she is letting go of how things used to be.

Target audience

We researched the typical target audience for indie music and found an age group of about 16-21. This is the age group we thought would also apply to our music video. The work 'indie' comes form the word independent. Being a teenager is about becoming independent and 'finding yourself' which this age group can relate to because the music and lyrics mention to these topics and give the different experiences go through. Therefore teenagers listen to this genre of music because they can empathise with the lyrics.
