The Strokes - 'Media' inspiration

Cat Power - Style inspiration

I really liked the idea of having professional photos of the band/artist, alongside informal fan photos. I would recreate fan images to add a sense of realism in the website. However unfortunately I do not know anyone who would fit the role of James.

On Cat Power's official website, I liked the simplistic and easy-to-understand style. I will try and use a similar style as it is laid back but also effective, and easy for the examiner to navigate.

Vampire Weekend - Merchandise inspiration

I loved the merchandise page on the website of Vampire Weekeend, a famous indie band. I liked in particular the layout and the user friendly page, and will use PhotoShop to make my own merchandise in this style.

I used this image from Google and cut around the image to get the rose alone using the magnetic lasso tool (below) on PhotoShop, to get to the final product. Then I used Google to find plain jumpers and a top. Using PhotoShop layers I placed the rose over the image, to look like the rose is a pattern on the clothing. I think having these products on a website would be effective as it shows that James Woodward, if a real artist, is a famous indie singer with his own clothes for fans to buy.

I chose the first three products to be in plain colours, typical of unisex clothing. The colours also compliment the colour of the dying rose, helping it stand out and relate to James's work.

Because I have used this image of the rose in my digipak and on the merchandise it creates a link between all of my projects.

I chose this last product to be a bright colour as it allows customers to have a wider variety when shopping. This colour can also look good on both males and females.

Using a plain white jumper I placed the trees used in the digipak over the jumper, duplicated the trees 3 times then changed the effect to 'Soft Light' that made the tree seem slightly opaque. I then changed the hue/saturation to give the jumper the pink and the blue colour. I used this method with the vest too.

I used my artwork as the background on the band website to create a link between my products - the artwork is seen in the video too. I also added some of James Woodward's other songs so that it seemed like it was a real website. If only one song was available it wouldn't be realistic of a successful artist. I then Googled venues/shows that play indie genre artists. I made these shows somewhere that an artist like James would play if he was famous. I linked the 'Buy Now' button to Ticketmaster website where you can buy the tickets if the was website was real.
